What Bagatelle London Is
Bagatelle is a restaurant first. The group runs venues in St Tropez, St Barth, Miami, Dubai, Tulum, Montauk, Courchevel and Athens, among others, and Time Out describes the Dover Street site as the international restaurant chain's first branch in London. It opened in May 2018, bringing the brand's mix of Riviera food, loud music and table-side theatre to one of Mayfair's quieter streets.
The formula is the same everywhere. Dinner starts as dinner. As the room fills, the music comes up, resident DJs and live performers take over, and bottles arrive with sparklers and a procession of staff. By the later sittings, especially at the end of the week, guests are on their feet beside the tables. If you want a quiet meal and a long conversation, book an early table on a Tuesday. If you want the party, book late on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
The menu is French Mediterranean, built around sharing plates, grilled fish and meat, pasta and a long champagne and wine list. The restaurant credits its current signature menu to chefs Rocco Seminara and Giuseppe Strippoli. One thing to know before you search: there is now a second Bagatelle in London. Two things follow from that table. First, Bagatelle London is an evening venue: there is no lunch service on the published timetable. Second, the latest finishes are Thursday to Saturday at 1am, which is why those are the nights with the most energy and the nights that pair best with a club afterwards.
Bagatelle Dress Code
The Bagatelle London dress code is smart-elegant, and the restaurant spells out what that means. For men it recommends a collared shirt, dress trousers or dark denim, and dress shoes. For women it suggests cocktail-style dresses and smart shoes. Athletic wear is strictly prohibited, which in practice means no trainers, tracksuits, sports tops or caps.
That is stricter than many Mayfair restaurants and close to what the clubs nearby expect, which is useful if you are going on afterwards: dress for Bagatelle and you are already dressed for the door at Rumour or 99 Regent Street. The crowd tends to dress up rather than down, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights, so if you are unsure, go a step smarter. A blazer is never wrong for men, and comfortable heels or smart flats make sense for women given how much of the later evening is spent standing and dancing.
The restaurant also notes that, because of age limits, some guests may be asked to show valid photo ID such as a passport, driving licence or national ID card. Carry it, especially if anyone in your group looks young. Licensed premises in England must have an age verification policy under the mandatory licensing conditions, so a request for ID is routine rather than personal.
How to Make a Bagatelle London Reservation
Bagatelle takes its own reservations, online through its booking page or by phone, and handles large parties and private events through its events team. We do not book Bagatelle tables ourselves; what we arrange is the club half of the night (more on that below).
A few rules matter when you book:
- Your table is held for 15 minutes. After that the booking is marked as a no-show and you are moved to the waitlist, so allow for traffic and do not plan a pre-drink across town.
- Incomplete parties are not seated. If you are a table of eight, all eight need to be there before you sit down. Agree a meeting point nearby, such as Green Park station or a bar on Albemarle Street, and arrive together.
- Book the sitting that matches the night you want. An early table around 7pm gives you a calmer meal. A table from about 9pm puts you in the room as the music builds and the performers come out.
- Book well ahead for Fridays and Saturdays. Weekend evenings are the busiest, and larger groups have fewer options at short notice.
For birthdays, hen parties and corporate dinners, tell the restaurant when you book. Celebration bottles and the parade that comes with them are a large part of the Bagatelle experience, and the team can only plan around an occasion it knows about.

Rumour is the closest, at the other end of Dover Street: a single room of about 200 built around red velvet booths, with open-format music and a strict no-photography policy on the floor. Ladies can be added to the guestlist; men book a booth. Itzel on Berkeley Street is a couple of minutes away and is the most accessible table on this list. 99 Regent Street runs two floors on Friday and Saturday, open-format hip hop and RnB upstairs and house downstairs, with entry 19+ and physical photo ID. Tape on Hanover Square is a ten-minute walk north and keeps going longest, with the main room open until 3:45am and Little Tape next door carrying on until 5:30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
The simplest plan is a 9pm table at Bagatelle on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, then a club table booked for around 12:30am. Is Bagatelle London Worth It?
Bagatelle is not a cheap night and does not pretend to be. You are paying for a Mayfair address, a lively room and the theatre around the bottles as much as for the food. It suits groups celebrating something, people who want dinner and a party without changing venue, and anyone who has been to a Bagatelle abroad and wants the same feel in London. It suits a quiet date or a budget night out much less well.
The best way to get value is to choose the night carefully. Tuesday and Wednesday are calmer and easier to book. Thursday to Saturday deliver the party the brand is known for, with the late finish that makes a club afterwards an easy walk rather than a taxi ride. Whatever night you pick, dress to the smart-elegant code, arrive on time with your whole group, and decide in advance where you are going next.
