What BEAT is
BEAT is a small house club built for the end of a night out rather than the start of one. Doors open at 1am, so it is the place you go after dinner or a bar, not the place you meet at the beginning of the evening. With a capacity of about 250, it is an intimate room by the standards of London's big clubs, and with a 6am close it runs well past the point most West End nights have finished.
It sits in Fitzrovia, close to Oxford Circus. Plenty of people search for it as a Mayfair club, but it is not in Mayfair: it is a short walk from it, which is why it works so well as a last stop after a night in the West End.
The Speakeasy history
48 Margaret Street has a longer story than most London club addresses. By the venue's own account, it opened in 1966 as The Speakeasy Club, known as The Speak, and hosted Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Bob Marley and David Bowie, as well as King Crimson's debut. The venue says the space has since been extensively renovated, and BEAT is the club there now.
We pass that history on as the venue's account rather than our own finding. If you searched for The Speakeasy Club in London, this is the address you were looking for.
Music and sound
House is the music policy at BEAT. That makes it a clearer choice than the open format rooms nearby: if your group wants house until the morning, this is the room for it, and if half of them want something else, it may not be.
The venue describes its sound system as one of London's finest. That is its own claim, not something we have measured, but it tells you what the club puts first. We do not list line-ups here, so ask us about your date when you book.
Nights and hours
BEAT is open on Friday and Saturday, and on select Thursdays, from 1am to 6am. Nights run into the next morning, so a Friday night at BEAT means doors at 1am on Saturday morning, a Saturday night means 1am on Sunday morning, and a select Thursday means 1am on Friday morning. Thursdays do not run every week, so send us the date before you plan a group around one and we will confirm whether the club is open.
The 1am doors shape the whole evening. Most groups plan dinner or a bar first, then move on to BEAT. Our dinner and clubbing guide has ideas for the first part of the night, and our Thursday, Friday and Saturday night guides show what else is open.
A simple plan for a Friday or Saturday is dinner in the West End, a bar nearby, then Margaret Street from 1am. Agree a time to move on, so the group is not trying to find each other outside at the end of the night, and keep your ID with you from the start of the evening. Tell us when you expect to arrive when you book. The earlier you send us the date, the more choice of tables we can offer.
How to get in
Entry is by table booking. Three things catch people out:
- No guestlist. BEAT does not run a guestlist, so there is no list to sign up for.
- No tickets. There are no tickets to buy and no door price to quote. The cost of the night is the table's minimum spend.
- Membership is not required. BEAT has members, and non-members can book a table. You do not need to be a member to come with a table booked.
To book, send us your date, your group size and roughly what you would like to spend. We check the night is running, confirm the minimum spend for that date and reserve the table. Booking through us is free. On the night, bring photo ID for everyone in the group and dress to the code below. As with any London club, the door has the final say.
Tables and bottle prices
As of November 2026, tables at BEAT start from £1,000 minimum spend and VIP tables from £2,000. The minimum is spent on drinks, so it goes towards what your table orders rather than being a charge on top. Bottles start from £750, in line with other clubs.
These are starting figures, and we confirm the exact minimum for your date when you enquire. Our BEAT table booking guide explains how to choose a table and what to send us, and the BEAT bottle prices page explains how bottles and minimums work together.
Tables can also be booked for birthdays, and celebration extras are available on request. See our BEAT birthday page if that is the occasion.
Dress code
The dress code is smart casual, with no sportswear. Trainers are only worth wearing if they are clean and smart, and even then it is at the door's discretion. Our BEAT dress code guide goes through trainers, jeans and what men and women tend to wear.
Age
BEAT is 18+ and you need photo ID to get in. Under the mandatory licensing conditions on gov.uk, acceptable ID carries a photograph, a date of birth and a holographic mark, such as a photocard driving licence, a passport or a PASS card. Check that everyone in the group has theirs before you book. There is more on what to bring in our BEAT age guide.
Getting there
The address is 48 Margaret Street, Fitzrovia, London W1W 8SE. The nearest tube is Oxford Circus, on the Central, Victoria and Bakerloo lines. The Central and Victoria lines run through the night on Fridays and Saturdays, which helps if you are leaving before the 6am close.
Is BEAT right for your night?
BEAT suits a group that wants house music, a very late finish and a table in a small room. It is a good last stop for a birthday or a night out that started elsewhere, as long as everyone is happy to stay up.
It is not the right choice if you want a free door, an early night or a wide mix of music. If that is you, Selene is also in Fitzrovia, and our London clubs directory lists every club we book. For a fuller assessment of the pros and cons, read our BEAT review.
