Rumour runs a smart and elegant dress code, and it is enforced. This is a 200-capacity Mayfair room where the crowd dresses for it — turning up underdressed is the most common reason people are turned away on Dover Street.
The Short Version
- Ladies: heels, and a going-out outfit — dress, tailored trousers with a smart top, or an elevated two-piece.
- Gentlemen: smart and dressed up. A well-cut shirt or a fine knit, dark trousers or dark denim, proper shoes.
- Everyone: no sportswear, no trainers, nothing scruffy.
For Ladies
Heels are the expectation. Beyond that the room rewards a considered look rather than a specific one — the lighting is low and red, the booths are velvet, and the crowd dresses to match. Given a 4am finish, heels you can actually stand in are worth the thought.
For Gentlemen
The bar is higher here than at the more relaxed London venues. A crisp shirt or a quality knit with dark trousers or well-cut dark jeans and leather shoes. A jacket lifts it further and costs nothing at the door. Trainers are not accepted, however clean.
What to Avoid
- Trainers of any kind
- Sportswear, tracksuits and football shirts
- Shorts, vests and beachwear
- Caps and hoods
- Anything visibly worn or creased — the room is small and people are close together
Why the Door Is Strict
Capacity is the reason. At 200 people the venue cannot absorb a group that does not fit the room the way a 1,500-capacity club can, so the door is selective from early in the night. Dressing properly is the cheapest way to make entry straightforward.
Guaranteeing Entry
Entry works in two ways. The ladies’ guestlist runs from free to £20 depending on how busy the night is. Gentlemen are not added to the guestlist — with a 200 capacity the door is managed tightly, so for men a table booking from £1,000 is the way in.
A table removes the door question entirely for the whole group — but the dress code still applies to everyone on it.
Before You Go
Check the entry price guide, the age policy (18+ with photo ID), or the full Rumour guide. Final entry is always at the discretion of the door team.
