Itzel is a three-room nightclub on Berkeley Street in Mayfair, occupying the space that was Funky Buddha for over two decades. The rebrand split the venue into a hip hop main room, a house-led basement called the Moon Room, and a late-night taqueria — a different proposition to the single-room club it replaced.
We book Mayfair every week, so here is a straight read on what Itzel is and who it suits.
First Impressions
The main room is the thing you remember: deep red throughout, with a back bar built as a wall of sculpted alcoves holding the bottles, lit from behind. It is a confident piece of design and reads far more considered than the room it replaced. Low banquettes run the length of the space, so even at capacity it feels like somewhere you sit rather than somewhere you stand.

The Moon Room
Downstairs changes the register completely. Blue light, a fibre-optic star ceiling, arched bar, globe pendants — cooler and more dance-focused, with a house-led policy against the hip hop upstairs. Having two genuinely different rooms on one entry is the strongest argument for Itzel over its neighbours, most of which are a single room and a single sound.
The Taqueria
A taco bar inside a Mayfair nightclub should not work as well as it does. Food this late is close to unheard of around Berkeley Square, and it changes the shape of a night — groups stay longer and the 2am scatter to find something to eat does not happen. It is also the clearest signal that this is not Funky Buddha with new paint.
The Crowd
Mayfair, dressed, and a touch younger and more fashion-led than the old room. The “elegance with edge” code does real work on the door: fewer plain suits, more people who have thought about it. Thursdays run noticeably more relaxed than Saturdays.
What to Know Before You Go
The honest caveat is the door. £50 for gentlemen and £10–£20 for ladies is charged even with a guestlist place, which is out of step with most Mayfair clubs where the list means free entry before midnight. For a group of men arriving without a booking, that is a real cost for the privilege of standing up.
Capacity is around 300 across both rooms, so Friday and Saturday get full and the queue is genuine. Go on a Thursday if you want the room without the pressure.
Is a Table Worth It?
At Itzel, more than at most places — because the door charge is high enough to make the maths obvious. Six men pay £300 to walk in; a £600 table covers entry for the whole group and returns every pound as bottles. If your group is four or more and mostly male, the table is the sensible call rather than the indulgent one.
The Verdict
One of the more interesting rebrands Mayfair has had in a while. Two distinct rooms, a genuinely good-looking main space and late food make it better value for a long night than the single-room clubs around it — provided you book a table and do not pay the door. Walk-in, for a group of men, it is an expensive way to stand up.
