Itzel is a three-room nightclub on Berkeley Street in Mayfair, occupying the space that was Funky Buddha for over two decades. The rebrand split the venue into a hip hop main room, a house-led basement called the Moon Room, and a late-night taqueria — a different proposition to the single-room club it replaced.
Itzel sums up its door policy in three words: “elegance with edge”. That is more specific than it sounds.
What Is Not Allowed
The venue names four things outright:
- Sportswear
- Hoodies
- Shorts
- Activewear
These are refusals, not judgement calls. No amount of brand on a tracksuit gets it through the door.
What “Elegance With Edge” Means
The second half of that phrase matters as much as the first. Itzel is not a black-tie room and a plain business suit is not the target — the door is looking for people who have made a deliberate choice, not people who have defaulted to formal.
For men: a well-cut shirt or a good knit, tailored trousers or dark denim with no distressing, and proper shoes. A sharp jacket lifts it. Leave the trainers at home however clean or expensive they are.
For women: a dress, a tailored set or a considered going-out outfit, with heels or an elegant flat. The room is dark and red-lit, which rewards clean lines and strong colour.
Where People Get Caught
- Trainers. The most common refusal at any Mayfair door.
- Shorts in summer. The code does not relax in warm weather.
- Hoodie under a jacket. The jacket does not cancel the hoodie.
- Technical outerwear. A running jacket or gilet reads as activewear.
Does a Table Change the Dress Code?
No. A table booking guarantees your group entry and removes the door charge, but everyone on the booking still has to meet the standard. Table guests are the most visible people in the room, and the door knows it.
Door Discretion
Itzel reserves final say at the door on dress and house standards, as every Mayfair club does. Arriving dressed well, in a sensible group size, at a reasonable hour does more for your chances than any single item of clothing.
